Leighton Linslade Cancer Support Group

What do we do ?

What do we do ?

The Group was founded in 2005 by Hilary and Jo and the initial meetings were held in a corner of a pub in Linslade.

Membership soon outgrew this venue and we moved to the Salvation Army Hall in Lammas Walk in 2007 where, every Friday morning between 20 and 25 turn up. It might only be two and a half hours but we pack a lot in. Lots of chat, chuckles and char. Everyone seems to get more out than they put in.

Occasionally, we have invited speakers in who have covered a variety of topics of interest to our members.

We fund raise – a very necessary activity – and this can be coffee mornings or raffles but we do rely upon the very generous support given to us by many local organisations.

We go on excursions to venues suggested by group members. These have included a cream tea on a canal boat, lunches at local hostelries, outings to local venues such as the Horse Sanctuary, ten pin bowling or visits to the theatre.

We are a small charity and therefore registered for Charitable Purposes with HMRC. For those of you who might need to know, our Registration Number is XT 33370.

What do we raise money for ?

The money we raise or which is donated to our Group is used to support our members in many ways to enhance their lives throughout their cancer journey.

It pays the rent on the hall we use for our Friday meetings.

It pays for our Public and Products Liability Insurance.

It pays for speaker fees or expenses where appropriate.

It can be used to offset the cost of social events which add so much to the quality of life of our members.

It pays for publicity material and correspondence and the cost of distribution.
